Dessert First

Yo! Welcome to Dessert First! Zach and Melani are always making up great things to try in the kitchen. See them make very serious things like pork chops, scary things like a Halloween bloody brain spaghetti, and very important but difficult things like a really huge cupcake!

Golden One Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe, and Cheezy Noodles & Hot Dogs

One of our easiest shows, though not our last. We make our own ice cream shoppe, where, of course--we mix our favorite ingredients into our favorite ice cream! After this we are really hungry so we through in some curly noodles to boil and in that we put some hot dogs. We heat up the processed cheese separately with some milk and all this together warms our tummies like we were little children. Ice cream and yummy cheesy pasta hot dogs. Watch here to make this for yourself! Video coming very soon!

Fruits! All Kinds of Crazy Fruits, Things we've never seen before and cut open to reveal their yummy-ness or totally gross-ness

We have gone to a gourmet store here in Austin, TX and picked out the most craziest fruit we could find. They all have labels and we can say what they are--where they came from, and most of all--we can cut them open to see what they look like on the inside. This is the most fun. Well, except for the coconut which, though was supposed to be "easily opened" as the label said, ---but most certainly not! We never got it to crack and if you have any suggestions, you should surely tell us about them! Otherwise, it was a most entertaining show!

The Making of the Official GingerBread Castle

(Part II Gingerbread Castle) Due to me, the official blogger, I failed to post these chronologically. Much forgiveness is begged from our followers. However, Zach and Melani did a fabulous job. They started out on a grand holiday adventure. They attempted to make both gingerbread cookies and a gingerbread castle. It was way to difficult for one episode. So here is the continuation of that episode. After making fabulous cookies, castle turns out pretty good. According to our three-way consultation, we decided to cut the walls after the dough had been cooked--but was still warm. We believe this is the best way. Also, you must make a stencil for the walls, battlements, supports, and of course the drawbridges!! See for yourself and let us know what you think. Video to come soon.

Dog Treats, Puppie "Brownies" and "Tuna Dreams"

Zach and Melani decide to change up there show a little bit. This is their fifteenth show. For this episode, they want to make dog treats!! The LOVE their dogs, so this is a super fun episode for them. Unusually, the dogs tend to like the tune treats better; see them for your selves. And, if you're planning to make these for their pups, see how easy they are to make!

"Caramelizing" Bosc Pears in a skillet and "Browning" the BEST Meatballs ever made!

Zach and Melani "Caramelize" some pears and "Brown" some meatballs. Technically, they are very different cooking terms. Previously, Zach and Melani caramelized the Acorn squash and the marshmallows on the campground. Any kind of meat they have cooked has technically bean browned. The "Bosc" pears are super hard and usually only eaten after they have been cooked, which Melani and Zach attempt to do with lots of sugar in a big pan. But the surprise of the episode is the delicious meatballs that they make! Browned perfectly had cooked to perfection, it is a terrible torture to see them eaten on screen but not have one yourself. At least, see the video here soon.

Zach & Melani Attempt to Make Ginger Bread Castle & Cookies

(Part I Ginger Bread) No wonder only Moms and Aunts and Parents make Ginger Bread! It is SUPER difficult.....Zach and Melani have learned this the hard way! In fact, they had to wait till the next episode to even attempt the castle. In this episode, they first decided to make many cookies to go with the castle. At least they still have all the gingerbread decorations for the castle! If you ever want to make your own gingerbread castle or cookies, watch this episode to see Melani and Zach's first attempt!

Fruit Cobbler and Yummy Bacon Wrapped Deer Burgers!

Zach and Melani have a treat today. They have been given bacon wrapped deer burgers to cook (otherwise known as venison!) Their benefactor today was Hudson's Meatpacking Co. in Austin which will process any meat you give them. They donated their venison burgers for the show. Even though Zach and Melani have never cooked any kind of deer or wild meat before, the used their their previous knowledge of cooking and gave it their best try! They love trying new things!! But, of course before the main dinner, they had to make dessert which was a crazy meddly of various berries cooked as a cobbler in a Dutch Oven. See the changes in the cobbler as it cooks in the oven, and hear the deer (venison to the grown-ups!) sizzle as if it is begging you to eat it! Zach and Melani will eat it for you!

It's the Munchies--Huge Oversized Choco-Sandwich Cookies & Beef Stroganoff!!

For this episodes Zach was forced to wear clothes from what the grown-ups call "The Seventies," but he really liked them. We haven't been able to find the shirt we made him wear---for sure he stashed it somewhere! For the show, Zach and Melani attempted to make humongous-ly HUGE chocolate sandwich cookies, and they actually worked! Then, of course they had to make dinner because they ate all that chocolate. So, they made their favorite (and FAST), beef stroganoff because they were very hungry after working so hard on those huge chocolate cookies. It was one of their favorite days---their favorite dessert AND their favorite dinner. If you don't want to spend all day making humongo-large cookies, then you can at least make a super fast beef stroganoff to cure your munchie tummies!

Campout on the "Land" w Fire & S'mores and Cheezeburgers!

Zach and Melani have a friend named Mike. He lives in a little bus on someone else's land. There, he helps with the gardening and maintaining the horses, cows and chickens and all the animals that live in the country. He is very used to cooking with a fire and living off of the land. Today, Melani and Zach have been invited to the "Land" to have a "Dessert First" Campout Episode. It is much more unruly than our regular "Dessert First" episodes. Zach and Melani must do unusual things like light a fire in order to cook food (so strange from using the regular-type stove!!) and then of course there is "Lexie" whom we have met before--Melani's pet boxer-dog who is nearly out of his mind with the burgers on the grill, just beyond her reach! Watch as Zach and Melani teach us how to cook dessert and dinner outside the kitchen, with no safe house or air conditioning and pet animals who are trying to get our food!!
